How to Take Care of Terrariums

Terrariums are low-maintenance indoor gardens that can thrive with proper care. Here are some tips to keep your terrarium healthy:

  1. Light: Place your terrarium in a bright, indirect light spot. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can lead to heat build-up and damage the plants.

  2. Watering: Check the soil moisture before watering. Typically, you'll need to mist with filtered water every 1-2 weeks, depending on the plant and terrarium size. Ensure the soil is moist but not waterlogged.

  3. Pruning: Trim any yellow or dead leaves to promote healthy growth. Keep an eye out for overgrown plants that may need trimming to maintain the terrarium's balance.

  4. Cleaning: Wipe the glass walls of the terrarium periodically to remove dust and maintain visibility. Clean any mold or algae growth promptly to prevent it from spreading.

  5. Fertilising: Use a diluted liquid fertiliser sparingly during the growing season to provide essential nutrients. Over-fertilising can harm the plants, so follow the instructions carefully.

  6. Air Circulation: Some terrariums may benefit from ventilation to prevent excess humidity buildup. if you choose to have a closed terrarium, open the lid for short periods if you notice too much condensation accumulating inside or if the soil is looking too damp.

  7. Springtails: Springtails aerate the soil and prevent the growth of harmful fungi and bacteria by feeding on them. These tiny creatures play a crucial role in maintaining a healthy and balanced terrarium environment, making them a valuable addition to your miniature garden.

By following these care tips and observing your terrarium regularly, you can create a thriving mini ecosystem that will bring a touch of nature into your home.
